A short 8 week pre-recorded course for ESL learners to develop stronger reading comprehension and writing skills over the summer holidays.
Join our Summer English Club for Kids to help improve your child's comprehension and understanding. An 8-week summer club supporting young readers aged 5-12 with their reading, comprehension, and writing skills. Led by a qualified teacher, students will be provided with a workbook and given set tasks to complete each week with support. Students will select their own choice of books to read whilst completing written and verbal tasks with support from a qualified teacher. Depending upon each student’s ability, they can either select one short story to read each week (minimum) or, a larger chapter book to complete over the full 8-week club. Students will participate in weekly activities linked to a workbook provided in week 1. Each week, 2 activities will be selected from the workbook for students to focus on: Week 1: Identifying the plot, setting, and characters of their chosen book / Sequencing the story events Week 2: Character descriptions / Character monologue Week 3: Non fiction vs. Fiction texts / Non fiction fact file Week 4: Book Cover Analysis and Creation / Writing a summary Week 5: Problems and solutions / Persuasive writing Week 6: Comparing stories / Create a comic of your chosen book Week 7: Write a book review / Create an alternative ending Week 8: Develop your own story outline / Act out your favourite scene In addition to the core program, students will also be encouraged to share videos within the community to answer weekly discussion-based questions. Students will be encouraged to respond to one another's video submissions. This is not a reading-focused club. Students should be able to read stories independently. This summer club will help improve students writing skills, with personal written feedback given on every submission.
